The islands is quiet this time of the year. Some dive sites maybe not be available but some other dive sites starts to change. With the low water temperature its a better season for small creatures like nudibranch. We still can see many other animal like green turtle, hawksbill turtle and white-tip reef sharks and hear the humpback whales while diving. Prepare a warm jacket for some windy and cold days and we always recommend to bring a suit that keeps your warm with the water temperature around 21C.
The preseason starts with the "Golden Week" on the first week of May.
If you plan to visit in this period, we suggest to plan well ahead on this week. Most of places will be packed and hotels and car rental companies gets really busy. The island chills after the first week of May.
We also get busy here with the winds blowing from southeast more frequently and turning the coast line in a glass-flat sea, the waters starts warm again and the season also starts change inside the sea.
From July to September is the warmest period of the year in Okinawa. flat seas most of days and great dives are definitely on schedule. The high humidity levels, frequent sunburns and dehydration are some things to always remember during the summer. We can experience the corals bleaching due the water temperature that could reach 30C.
But as soon as August starts we also can expect to weather to change quickly with the typhoon season. Plan carefully and with flexibility on your schedule from here throughout September, you would like to haver some days to spare in case you are in the island when the typhoon, it could happen with some frequency.
We love to consider this the best season. The water temperature in and out of the sea are now in balance. Perfect for a 3mm and the sun is not burning anymore, but still have to take care of dehydration and stuff.
The dive sites still running and the sea still flat, all great dives are still waiting for you. Please contact us for details, we can help you to create the best plan.
